Why Are Female Fans Invisible?
Why is the female geek treated as non-existant in the media? So many shows seem to reinforce the stereotype of nerdy guys who can't get girlfriends when the reality is that nerdy guys hook up with nerdy girls. They seek out nerdy girls to be with. But, for some reason, we can't have any women on television or in the movies who like video games or sci-fi or comics. Yes, there are areas in fandom where men outnumber women--comics fandom comes to mind--but that doesn't mean they're completely devoid of women. What gives?
